Hide Files, Folders, and Drives in Windows 10/11: If you share your computer with someone, you may need to hide some files and folders so that others cannot see or use them. So if you want to hide a file on your computer, follow the steps given below.
Hide Files, Folders, and Drives in Windows 10/11
Hide Using Command Prompt
One of the easiest ways to hide any file or folder is to change the attribute by using the attribute command on the command line.
Let’s assume that we want to hide ‘My Data Files’ in the Hide folder.
Step 1: Open the Run dialog box by pressing Windows + R. Then tap and press the ok.
Step 2: Type the command given below at the prompt.
attrib C:\Users\Apk Tester\Documents\My Data Files +s +h
Replace the above command with the path of your hidden file or folder after attribution.
+ s and + h is the attribute set for the file. The + S attribute is a system file attribute and indicates that the file is for use with the operating system and is not normally displayed in the directory listing. + h is a hidden file attribute and indicates that the file will not appear in the directory listing.
The attribute case in the command is not sensitive so you can type the upper or lower case in either.
When you open a file or folder in File Explorer that contains your hidden file, you will not see that file or folder. Even if you go to View> Show / hide and check Hide, the folder will not be visible to you.
Use the attribute command to unhide files or folders, and replace “+” with “-” in front of s and h.
attrib C:\Users\Apk Tester\Documents\My Data Files -s –h
Hide Using File Explorer
File Explorer is an easy way to hide any file/folder content.
Step 1: Open File Explorer
Step 2: Go to that file or folder that you want to hide.
Step 3: Right Click on this file or folder and then go to Properties.
Step 4: Check out the Hidden option in the General tab.
Step 5: Click Apply
Step 6: If you are hiding a folder containing ‘files and subfolders’ then select Apply changes to this folder, subfolders, and files.
Press Ok to complete the task.
After completing the step, your folder will disappear.
If you want to see your hidden file or folder then you have to type the path of that file or folder and press enter. You can then browse your hidden file normally by checking the Hidden items option by clicking on View tab in File Explorer.
